Making a mockery of life since 1969

Me, by me.

KenSalaam.
OM Sri Kalikayai Namah.

When I think about the last 39 years it could be tempting to wish away a great portion of that time.  But I do not.  That time has led to this time which will lead to the next time.  Ethereal fluff, to be sure, but my ethereal fluff.  Every triumph, every failure, every memory, every lapse in judgment – they have all served their purpose and I am walking around on the other side of them all – walking around with the understanding of where I went wrong, where I got lucky, and where I rocked the house.

I was born and (mostly) raised in Texas, and that makes me a Texan for life.  But I have lived (minimum required stay: 6 months) in six other states: Illinois, Michigan, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.  I currently hang my hat in Piedmont, South Carolina; Heather and I have lived here since July 2005.  And while we enjoy our little slice (1.5 acres) of country heaven here, we are only on the five year plan.  Our goal is to buy a 50 acre spread in Tennessee by 2010.

I have worked in the technology sector since 1989.  My first “real” job – I don’t count the high school jobs at Eckerd’s and HEB or the brief post-school stint selling tickets for the San Antonio Symphony – was in San Antonio where I made a whopping $3.75/hour as a full-time programmer.  I have worked for more than a few companies and did a five year tour as an independent consultant.  I have worked for American General, Stewart Title, Enron, Kellogg’s, and Goodwill International.  I have also done work for almost a dozen small firms throughout the country.  For the past six years I have been Vice President of Technology for BizActions.

I have bungee jumped over 100 times; I have done a 7 story free-fall (nothing attached, landing on a stuntman’s airbag); I have played disc golf in a national supertour event (and took 2nd place in the amatuer division); I have visited (or at least driven through) the 48 contiguous states and have spent 60+ days in more than a dozen of them; I have met and shaken the hands of Cesar Millan, Jim Gaffigan, and Ed Kowalczyk; and I have been involved in the adoption of 100+ retired racing greyhounds, not including the 25 I have owned (11 passed on, 14 still living with me) which you can read about at greyhoundfreaks.com.

So, do you think you know me now?  Well, probably not, but at least you’re on the path.  I have lived with myself my entire life and sometimes I wonder if even *I* know me.  Hopefully I have at least another 39 years to figure it out.

…Ken
