For 41 years I’ve been making a mockery of life and I have no plans to stop.  However, on October 16, 2010, I will take a break to spend 24 hours playing video games.

WTF?

Yeah, you read right.  I’m participating in Extra Life, A Sarcastic Gamer Community Charity Effort.  “Play Games.  Heal Kids.” This event raises money for hospitals in the Children’s Miracle Network.  I have chosen to play for Texas Children’s Hospital because I am a native Texan and because I have seen firsthand the great work they do there.

At midnight, 8 hours before I start the 24-hour gaming marathon, I have already raised $910 $1050.  I kicked of the donations with a $500 match of what I raised last year.  My goal is $2500, but I’m happy to raise any amount.  I hope if you’re dropping by my blog you’ll find a way to donate.  $10.  $25.  $100.  Whatever you can spare.

The money will go to help kids with cancer, which is something I have very personal feelings about.  Three years ago I lost my father to cancer.  Two weeks ago I lost my sister to cancer.  I have a 14 year old daughter and I cannot imagine what it would’ve been like if she had ever been diagnosed with cancer.  So when I think about these kids at Texas Children’s Hospital and what they must be going through, I get fired up to raise money to make their lives a little bit better and to help the continuing research to find treatments and cures for cancer.
